More responsive system and more cost-effective paper and board production with TrumpJet Flash Mixing Reactor
The picture shows three TrumpJet mixing stations close to each other.
Chemicals work more efficiently when injected together very close to the headbox
The fast TrumpJet® Flash Mixing Reactor opens the opportunity to dose new and conventional wet end additives close to headbox and the forming section. This makes the system fast, responsive, and efficient, reduces chemical consumption, and improves formation and profiles. It also helps to lower operating costs and increase profits.
Numerous mill results show that after the installation of TrumpJet Flash Mixing Reactor, the efficiency of chemicals has improved, leading to a significant reduction in chemical consumption by 20%–80%.
Typically, strength starch, sizing agents or wet/dry strength agents, and fillers are relocated closer to the headbox along with retention aid additives. This optimized use of additives improves flock structure and sheet formation.
In addition, TrumpJet injects chemicals without dilution water. It allows remarkable water and energy savings, because water has to be added and heated to process temperature.
Mill results
Fine paper line, Europe
Before: Starch and ASA were added to thick stock, CPAM -before the screen, and bentonite immediately after the screen.
Our solution: Cationic polymer (CPAM) and bentonite are added almost simultaneously before headbox. Starch and ASA are flash mixed simultaneously before retention aid.
Results:
- Good sheet quality
- Good runnability
- CPAM savings at first 60%, later CPAM line was completely closed, savings 100%
- ASA savings 15%
- Starch savings 15%.
Additional conclusion: Once strength starch is brought close to headbox, starch also operates as retention aid, so it completely replaced the more expensive CPAM.
Coated mechanical printing paper, Europe
Before: Starch was added to thick stock, CPAM – before the screen, and bentonite before the mixing pump.
Our solution: Cationic polymer (CPAM) and bentonite are added almost simultaneously just before the headbox. Starch is flash mixed before retention aid stations. All TrumpJet Mixing stations are located between machine screen and headbox.
Results:
- Good strength and sheet quality
- Good runnability
- CPAM savings 50-65%
- Starch savings 5-10%.
Liner board line, Europe
Before: Starch and AKD were added to thick stock and CPAM before the screen.
Our solution: Cationic polymer (CPAM) is flash mixed just before the headbox. Starch is flash mixed simultaneously with AKD before retention aid.
Results:
- Good sheet quality
- Good runnability
- CPAM savings at first 50-80%, later CPAM line was completely closed – saving 100%.
- Starch savings 45-50%
- AKD savings 10%.
