More responsive system and more cost effective paper and board production with TrumpJet Flash Mixing Reactor

Efficient mixing of chemicals close to
headbox improves machine runnability
and cost efficiency.
Picture shows three TrumpJet
mixing stations close to each other.

The numerous TrumpJet® Flash Mixing Chemical Reactor installations show how chemicals work together more efficiently when injected very close to the headbox. Typically strength starch, sizing agent or wet/dry strength agent and e.g filler are relocated close to the headbox together with retention aid additives. Flock structure and formation develop positively due to optimized use of additives. Also the water, chemical and energy savings are remarkable.

PRACTICAL MILL RESULTS

Fine paper line, Europe: Cationic polymer (CPAM) and bentonite are added almost simultaneously before headbox. Starch and ASA are flash mixed simultaneously before retention aid.
Before: starch and ASA were added to thick stock and CPAM before the screen and bentonite immediately after the screen.
The results: good sheet quality, good runnability, CPAM saving at first 60%, later CPAM line was completely closed, saving 100%. ASA saving 15%, starch saving 15%. Additional conclusion: Once strength starch is brought close to headbox, starch also operates as retention aid and replaced the more expensive CPAM completely.

Coated mechanical printing paper, Europe: Cationic polymer (CPAM) and bentonite are added almost simultaneously just before the headbox. Starch is flash mixed before retention aid stations. All TrumpJet Mixing stations are located between machine screen and headbox.
Before: starch was added to thick stock, CPAM before the screen and bentonite before mixing pump.
The results: good strength and sheet quality, good runnability, CPAM savings 50…65%, starch saving 5…10%.

Liner board line, Europe: Cationic polymer (CPAM) is flash mixed just before headbox. Starch is flash mixed simultaneously with AKD before retention aid.
Before:  Starch and AKD were added to thick stock and CPAM before the screen.
The results: good sheet quality, good runnability. CPAM saving at first 50…80%, later CPAM line was completely closed – saving 100%., starch saving 45…50%. AKD saving 10%.

The fast Flash Mixing Reactor opens the opportunity to bring new and conventional wet end additives close to headbox and forming section. This makes the system fast, responsive and efficient, chemical saving rate is high formation and profiles are improved and influence to cut operational costs and increase profits is considerable. TrumpJet injects the chemicals without dilution water, the water saving per production line is remarkable.
